Amersham & District Branch of the SAA - located in Chiltern District, Buckinghamshire.

We are affiliated to The Society for All Artists (SAA) which has over 20,000 members worldwide in 62 different countries. It exists to inform and encourage all those who want to paint. Individual membership to this society is optional, though it is recommended and recognised by a reduced subscription for members.

Beechwood Artists was established in 1996 and has approximately 100 members of varying experience from beginners upwards. All members are amateurs and they create pictures in a wide variety of media for enjoyment and personal challenge. There are no entry qualifications for membership and there is no pre-selection of paintings for exhibitions.

We meet regularly every Wednesday in the Amersham Common Village Hall, (click here for map) in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere to paint our own pictures. We have an Art DVD and Book Library with free loan to members at Wednesday painting groups.

Occasionally we have a visiting professional artist to give a lecture, to demonstrate their paintings and techniques, or to offer a critique of our paintings. We also have tutored workshops throughout the year given by professional artists, usually held on a Monday or Thursday. These are available to non-members. (See Events for details) Recent tutors have included Martin Smith, Gordon King, Soraya French, Max Hale, Derek Daniells, Geoff Clark, Geoff Thorpe, Liz Seward Relfe, Jenny Thomas, Mitch Waite and Robert Newcombe. Full details of the current programme will be given to members on joining.

Two exhibitions are held annually: currently May/June in Chalfont St Peter Community Centre and November in Amersham Common Village Hall. (See Events for details)

In the summer, we hold a garden party for members and partners, which is very enjoyable, and on the last session before Christmas we have a painting competition and lunch.

We also have occasional coach outings to places of interest.
